Five Virmax coffees receive top accolades from Coffee Review ®

In February’s edition of The Coffee Review® five Virmax coffees, roasted by five different roasters were awarded scores ranging from 96 points to 88.
The top score overall (96 points) was awarded to a micro lot produced by Mr. Reynel Perez and roasted by Paradise Roasters. Mr. Perez is a small coffee grower from the municipality of Planadas in the department of Tolima in southern Colombia and a member of the Jordan Coffee Growers Association. His coffee was described as:
“Exhilaratingly intense but roundly sweet-toned aroma: black cherry, flowers, milk chocolate, with an underlying cedar-toned crispness. Sweet flowers and cherry dominate in the cup with an almost symphonic richness of tone. Medium bodied but silky mouthfeel. The floral notes linger into the farthest reaches of the finish.”
In addition to Reynel’s lot, there were also three coffees from our 2006 Cauca Las Mingas TM program included in this month’s Coffee Review: two micro-lots (Juvenal Penna, roasted by Counter Culture Coffee, and Nelson Melo, roasted by Alterra Coffee Roasters) and a AAA-quality lot: Tres Santos, roasted by Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea.
These results continue to show the incredible potential that Colombia has as a producer of outstanding quality coffee and is evidence to the fact that Virmax’s work over the past five years with small coffee growers in different regions of the country is starting to produce positive results.
We also need to highlight the importance of the commitment shown by the roasters that participate in our different programs. It is thanks to their involvement that these coffees have been able to reach the market. The personal recognition that participating roasters have give the three coffee growers is proof that direct relationships provide benefits for all parties.
On a final note, our Timana Relationship Coffee TM was also recognized as one of the best Colombian coffees out there, obtaining an 88 score in the Coffee Review®.
Kudos to all the winning coffee growers and roasters!
