organic coffees
Until the 1970s, most of Colombias
coffee was produced using very traditional methods and with
minimal use of agrochemicals. Since then, the Colombian coffee
industry has focused mainly on increasing productivity levels,
which depend on heavy sun exposure, high tree density per
hectare and the use of chemical fertilizers. As a result,
certified organic coffee is hard to find in Colombia.
Thanks to our close relationship with coffee growers, so far
we have been able to find these two exceptional organic coffees
produced in the department of Cauca:
AMACA. A very unique coffee that is produced by three
hundred women coffee growers from the municipality of Tambo,
Cauca, very near the colonial town of Popayán. Out
of the three hundred farms, only thirty farms are NOP organic
certified. Astonishingly, it is a coffee with a nice feminine
touch: sweet and soft, with a nice citric aroma, hints of
flowers and spices, sweet tangelo fruit and a nicely rounded
body.
Organica. NOP Certified by Mayacert, this coffee is
produced by three sister organizations from the municipalities
of Tambo and Timbio in the department of Cauca: Asorganica,
AMACA and Corseda. After four years of hard work and dedication,
finally in 2005 the first one hundred and twenty farms were
certified organic. Soft and lingering red berries, caramel
and citric notes combined with a silky body.
