Varieties Grown in Colombia
Coffee has two main commercially grown species:
Coffea arabica and Coffea canephora (also know
as Robusta). Colombia only grows coffee from the specie C.
arabica, which is of better quality than the Robusta.
Arabica coffee is grown in the tropics, between 2000 ft and
6500 ft above sea level as it is very susceptible to frost.
Arabica coffee also needs a minimum of 1300 mm of rain per
year.
