Varieties Grown in Colombia

Coffee has two main commercially grown species: Coffea arabica and Coffea canephora (also know as Robusta). Colombia only grows coffee from the specie C. arabica, which is of better quality than the Robusta. Arabica coffee is grown in the tropics, between 2000 ft and 6500 ft above sea level as it is very susceptible to frost. Arabica coffee also needs a minimum of 1300 mm of rain per year.

The following Arabica varieties are grown in Colombia (click on each topic to see details):

Typica Colombia Tabi
Bourbon Maragopipe Castillo
Caturra
